Common Causes of Slab Leaks

Hard water can eat away at the inside of pipes by the acidic properties in the mineral deposits. Leaks are created over time, especially if you don't have a water filtration system.

Before home builders moved over to Pex tubing copper was the most used piping material. Over time rocks and pebbles can cause dents on the weakened copper and cause leaking.

Most municipal water is heavily chlorinated to treat and prevent bacterial, mold, and mildew growth. Unfortunately, the Chlorine and Chloramine in the water eat away the impurities in the pipe causing pinhole leaks.

Believe it or not, concrete can actually eat away at copper lines. The best practice for installing copper lines under a slab is to place the lines in a sleeve to create a barrier between the pipe and the concrete. Pipes will expand and contract due to changing temperature, and lines that are laid in concrete will crack and break, proper installation would be to lay a bed of sand before laying the lines. Unfortunately that isn't always what is done.

Galvanized lines are extremely common as well, but they begin to rust almost immediately after installation! After a period of time wear and tear causes leaking and some serious slab leak damage.
